This field recording shows mobile SLAM scanning with a Lixel L2 Pro during a digital cemetery mapping project in Hungary.
The cemetery environment was captured using continuous mobile scanning trajectories rather than fixed terrestrial scan positions. The survey areas were planned with sufficient overlap between neighbouring trajectories to support subsequent point cloud registration and integration.
The environment presented several typical challenges for mobile reality capture, including narrow passages, dense vegetation, trees, irregular burial plot layouts and partially obscured graves.
GNSS-measured control points were used within the wider survey workflow to support georeferencing and refinement of the scanner-derived EOV coordinates.
From capture to point cloud
Field acquisition was only the first stage of the workflow.
Individual trajectory datasets were processed and cleaned in Lixel Studio, then aligned and integrated in RiSCAN PRO. The resulting point clouds were georeferenced, colourised, optimised and checked against centimetre-level spatial requirements.
The final point density was also reduced to meet the technical requirements of the target cemetery management environment while preserving the spatial information required for documentation.
Selected captured environments were additionally processed into 3D Gaussian Splatting (3DGS) models using LCC Studio (Lixel Cyber Color).
